    Inopinate – July 18

Americans wear sweat pants to dinner, jeans and sneakers to birthday parties and shorts to nightclubs. Aside from their own weddings, they do not dress up for anything. So no matter what I wear, I always feel overdressed. I wore this (I think rather plain) outfit to the Coldplay concert last night.

    From Style Per Diem

Pants: Casual pants that are not jeans! I recently discovered that Mango’s size 2 pants fit me like a glove when I bought these navy ones on sale for $50. They are fitted at the hip and thighs, and fall nicely into a wide bottom. A great alternative to jeans for dressing up or down. My only complaint is that they pick up lint and wrinkles too easily to make them a staple.

Top: I wanted a shape that would balance the silhouette of the pants. I chose this mauve top with exaggerated butterfly sleeves. It is modestly sheer and low cut. Underneath the giant sleeves, there are regularly constructed armholes, so there is no fear of exposing too much sideways either.

Shoes: All-solid outfits bore me to sleep. The previously posted, printed satin peeptoes added enough interest to keep me awake through the warm-up bands.

Accessories: I found this lovely gold necklace at some store in Pasadena. The pendant is a dainty peacock with black beads at the bottom. I also added these silver teardrop earrings, because I like mixing metallics. The dotted beads in it look dark blue to me, but they could be black. The purse is the previously posted birthday gift.

Although the outfit lacked visual interest in my opinion, it did not make me feel overdressed. Until the orgy teens showed up in bikini tops and thongs.

You can be the judge of it.

I was going through celebrity gossip site last night and all the denim jacket brought my attention. I bought my denim jacket 2 year ago and I thought it would be out of the seasons now. But I decided to try it out.

I had these baige pants that’s very comfortable for sitting especially for work environment like mine. I found that sometimes Jeans are getting a bit uncomfortable after sitting for a long time at work.

I found a closed-color tank top for my baige pants so I don’t put too much color on me with a denim jacket on the outside.

I chose a pair of dark purple flats (from Steve Madden) to bring up the balance of the outfit.

Whether it’s working out or not, you guys can be the judge of it.

    The flats

Monsoons has widened the range of fabrics I can wear to three. This blouse made be feel feminine and professional.

Top: Silk kurta (Rs 100) with closed neck bought under the excuse, “Ma can wear it too”. However, it makes me look too boxy, so I layered with a light knit vest. I shy from busy prints so a block of grey makes me feel more secure. AND, if I got wet in the rains, I wouldn’t be on display.

Jeans: Reliable ink blue Levi’s L567. Low waist, bootleg.

    Shoes: Bondage chappals from Catwalk.

Accessories: Pigeon blood ruby in silver Moghul setting. One of my first silver pieces and bought by my mother, who has excellent taste. Men’s formal Titan watch, thin black faux croc belt, and moonstone and ruby earrings.

    Dilshad Burman – July 3

On the Friday following my birthday I had a doctors appointment and various errands to run and since I only wore this tunic for 2 hours the past Sunday, I just didn’t get enough of it. I took it for a full day run in this version..

    From Style Per Diem

The jeans: Previously posted, much loved jeans that I shrunk too much and now wear folded. They’re a dark wash, naturally distressed to medium and I SO wish they were longer sometimes.

The tunic: Recently posted white cotton tunic with pin tuck detailing, puffed sleeves and a hidden button placket.

The chappals: Lime green kohlapuri’s that I simply adore and probably want a back up pair of soon.

Accessories: I left in all the usual silver staples and added this multi-coloured string of chunky beads – a birthday present from Ella Renee last year. :) I used my Old Navy cloth tote, which I am getting a surprising amount of use out of, to add colour and pop.

I think this version of the outfit actually works better than the previous one. I still love the pink tights, but the day called for a little more practicality and the jeans subbed in just perfectly. Stylish practicality makes for a happy, pain free day. Confuscious say.

Simple white shirt and color necklaces. What a perfect match! Simple shirt is always on the top of the fashion list. And you have a great body to make such simple outfit looks pretty!

Simple is what I am trying for

I always loved those one-shoulder t-shirts, not too much of a prints but a silky material which is very fit.

This shirt is from Hollister and I got it for $7 when it was on-sale. It is a silky kinda material and simple blue with a bit shinning ( can’t really tell from the picture). It is very very comfortable especially for days like today, very humid and over 30 degrees.

The black pencil pants is from H&M, it is office dress pants, but I folded the bottom up a bit to make it look casual.

A very simple put together for a simple day at work.

    Inopinate – July 16

Thursday was the last workday for me this week. So I dressed on the casual end of the business casual spectrum.

    From Style Per Diem

Pants: Previously posted, streamlined black pants with beige pinstripe. The jeans interpretation of casual for the workplace gets old.

Top: A beautiful pantone blue top that I recently picked up from a no-name store for $10. Jersey tops with blouse-like styling are my favorite fashion explosion of late. They are the missing link between T-shirts and blouses. This one has a small yoke with a few pin tucks and 3 low buttons. The neckline is tailored to give the top-button-left-open look, without actually having a button there. The material is perfect for summer.

Shoes: Black patent leather slingbacks with peeptoe front and buckle detail. They have a small stacked heel that is uber comfortable for walking. I have a feeling these are going to be my staple for work this summer. I just wish they had them in bone.

Accessories: The Tau Beta Pi bent for nice contrast with the blue, small blue floral earrings and the chronograph.

YAY! 100th post! And agreed about the t-shirt/blouses, I have many of them and they’re lovely with both jeans and trousers. :) I love the colour of the one you’re wearing.

    All about the shoes

I haven’t really get out much during day light because of my job. So I had this one day that I decided to walk around since the weather is nice.

It was a very simple and easy outfit.

    • Light grey Cardigan: FCUK
    • Denim short: Forever 21
    • Sandles: Don’t know what brand…

LOVE the sandals. There is a lot of strappy stuff floating around this summer, but these really stand out.

I like how the nails and shoes match. Very striking colour. I like how we’re moving towards electric blues.

    Inopinate – July 13

Today was an uninspired and hot Monday. All the apartment hunting has also taken a lot out of me lately. So I kept it simple and cool.

    From Style Per Diem

Pants: Yet another Editor from Express. This time, it’s black with grey pinstripe.

Top: A very old cotton top from when long tops first came back into fashion this decade. I love the cherry blossom print and the Chinese collar. Everything about this top is very Asian. In fact, even the material looks like silk from far away. There is a tie at the waist that I tied at the back. I also added a sheer white tank underneath to keep the outfit work-appropriate.

    Shoes: Previously posted burgundy wedges.

Accessories: In keeping with the Asian motif, I chose these golden earrings (as in, gold-colored plastic earrings) from India – circa 1997. To avoid being too matchy-matchy, I carried the previously posted ginormous blue bag.

Top: The leotard shirt (known in exhalted cirlces as the chaddi shirt) from Vero Moda.
Jeans: Victoria Beckham skinny jeans. Spoils of work and rarely used.
    Shoes: Gumboots
Accessories: Pink chiffon scarf with plum roses, square-cut ruby and moonstone earrings, red belt, ruby ring and shell kada.

    7 July 09

    Pants: Wide-leg Old Navy trousers
Tank: Rose one from Fox, Tel Aviv
Waistcoat: Tweed one from W, Colaba. I bought it on sale three years ago, before they came into vogue.

    DSC04443

    Shoes: Brown Clark Loafers
Accessories: Shell kada, men’s formal watch from Titan

This is my effortless cool outfit. I feel I should breeze into the office with a cup of coffee, a bundle of glossies with my assistant following me. Unfortunately, I do not drink coffee.
I love the cut of the waistcoat’s collar and the material. That little detail will ensure the waistcoat is never dated and sets it apart from pinstripe and denim pretenders.
