Dilshad Burman – August 12

The day I had planned included a few hours of work, dinner on a patio by the lake and an open air screening of The Labyrinth, also by the lake. Since it was blazing hot I wanted an all cotton ensemble and went with this…

From Style Per Diem

The shorts: Off white linen walking shorts with absolutely no details aside from back slit pockets and side pockets. I simply love them because they are so simple and hence so versatile. I also very much enjoy this undyed kind of look the fabric has and they fit beautifully on the hips and then sort of float away from the leg, allowing for much temperature control and no sticky leg syndrome on a humid day.

The top: A lovely maroon printed cotton top I picked up from Fabindia when I was home this year. I love the thick band of contrast fabric on the empire waist and the crossover of fabric on the bust, which makes it look much like an angarkha. The yellow flower print on the bright maroon fabric is very gav-walli types and I just love how it all pops!

The chappals: Favourite copper and gold kohlapuri’s from home, sent in my birthday package this year!

Accessories: I deliberately mixed metallics, leaving in the usual silver finger rings, adding a thin copper chain and a mix of gold and silver bangles and some small silver drop ear-rings from Asiatic that I picked up many many years ago. Since they’re somewhat tarnished, they went with the copper chain and dull gold bangles well.
In addition, I pulled my hair back and wore this recently bought lovely copper hairband, which when worn is somewhat Grecian. I’m really liking this look of late.

I also carried my bright green pashmina for when it got a bit chilly by the lake and to be comfortable on the walk home.

All in all a fun day and a fun outfit. I enjoy a bit of ethno-chic once in a while, although I despise the term ethno-chic.
