    Dilshad Burman – August 9

It was a blazing 32 degrees and the humidex was to make it feel like 42 ; the perfect day for a Greek street festival! I wanted to stay cool yet comfortable, and with rain in the forecast, wanted to be prepared as well.
Please note: It all started with the shoes..

    From Style Per Diem

The shoes: Adorable pink jelly ballet flats from Bata that arrived in my birthday package from home this year. They are plastic and rubber, hence perfect for the rain. I started out knowing I wanted to wear these and the rest of the outfit was pieced together around what would go with them.

The skirt: I bought this black cotton ‘ra-rah’ micro mini as part of my “I am not too old to wear short skirts, damn you!” defiance shopping and have been dying to wear it ever since, but never found an opportunity to put it to the fullest use. I decided to wear it this day to prevent my pants from getting soaked and having to deal with soaked pants for the rest of the evening.

The top: This lovely soft printed cotton t-shirt from Old Navy is something I would usually avoid because it is not the least bit fitted except on my relatively large hips – relative to the rest of me that is. If someone with my frame wears loose t-shirts it just looks like I’ve lost weight or cant find clothes that fit right. However the birdies and flowers won me over and I found a way to make it work. More importantly, the fabric and fit allowed for movement and breathing room on a particularly sticky day.

Accessories: I put on this belt, that also came in my birthday package, to provide definition for the waist with the loose t-shirt. These pink silver and mother of pearl ear-rings from Goa replaced the regular silver balis. My lovely printed umbrella with birdies and vines kept me somewhat dry and the ever-present black satchel bag came with.

Strangely enough, this skirt is one of the shortest I own, but I was more comfortable in it than in any of the previous short dresses or skirts I have posted. When it rained, it did in fact stay quite dry since it was so high up and when it was blazing…well the benefits are obvious.
All in all a good choice for a lovely day filled with food, friends and foolishness.

Adorable. I’m curious to see that with a wider belt.

I have a similar skirt but I have never worn it. Lol, it’s too mini for me but then again I dont really mind. I’m sure my husband wont say no. But anyway, i’m wondering if it would be better to wear a thigh socks (if such thing exists)…you see, what I’m trying to say is…um, what if the wind is strong? You get me?

Aatlo nanoo skirt? Badhu aar-paar! I like how the tee and umbrella match. Really heart the tee. Must get myself some printed ones

Hmmm…never considered a wider belt…not sure if it would create too strong a divide…will try it next time! and thanks!

Hehe…I wore shorts underneath. I usually do when anything is that short. Another option is coloured tights. If you’re not into crazy colours, even just a muted grey is nice. If the weather was cooler I would have probably worn tights myself.

    August 14th, 2009

So far I love H&M this season’s collection.

Everything is very well to mix and match and casual sometimes can looks professional too.

    • Top: from H&M. I love the fact there are some little bits on the top. That makes a plain white top more interesting.
    • Black cardigan as usual, it goes well with everything I own so far.
    • Skirt: very cheap skirt from Urban Behavior. Pencial skirt is my favorite for this summer. It fits perfect and looks slim.

I love the top because I saw Selena Golemz was wearing it at one red carpet event. It’s very casual but sometimes it can be dressy.

Here is how she wears it, and I like the grey skirt, I wish I can get one like this.

      Shoes?

    • Ella Renee 7:53 pm on August 15, 2009 Permalink | Reply

I wore the same shoes as the post below.
It started to hurt me after a long walk to get lunch at work, so I changed to flip flops.

    August 12th, 2009

I started practicing wear heels sometimes when I don’t walk for too far distance. There is a demo convension at work today so I decided to dress up a bit.

The dress is actually really really soft, comfortable and most important, it is very cheap.

I wasn’t going to throw on the black cardigan but because the dress is sleeveless, and it’s better to wear something outside when at work, so I put the black cardigan over it.

    • Dress: from H&M. It is only $15 at H&M and it is not even on sale. It’s such a comfortable material and the length is perfect for work. I like the shinning stuff on it, not too much, but a bit bling makes the dress less boring.
    • Shoes: from H&M. It’s a pair of wedge heels. I’ve never thought I would wear shoes like this. But it actually makes my legs look thinner and better.

p.s I still haven’t decide if I should keep the jacket or not…still needs votes on it.

Oh I like. I covet your style very much. The little shine is just the kind of thing I shoudl start wearing to break out of my comfort zone. And, I need to get a large sweater.

I really really like this and a friend said it looks very smart and fit on me.

so….please HELP….I have 2 weeks from today to return it get full refound.

SHOULD I KEEP IT??? the problem is it is TOO EXPENSIVE.

“What is the reasonable price for leather jacket? what’s your opinion?”

    • Nidhi 4:59 am on August 11, 2009 Permalink | Reply

yes! it looks like a great color and a unique design. I think it will come in pretty handy with many outfits as fall approaches.

    • sraikh 6:24 am on August 11, 2009 Permalink | Reply

It does look really good on you.
I wouldnt pay more than $100 for it. But thats me. I am cheap.

    • inopinate 5:19 pm on August 11, 2009 Permalink | Reply

A good leather jacket can cost hundreds of dollars. The cheapest you can get is probably around $100. I do like this one. I say keep.

Like the cut of the jacket. Not too in love with the color though.

    • Ella Renee 5:02 am on August 11, 2009 Permalink | Reply

Thanks. I like it so much and it does look great. It’s just very expensive and I don’t know how much a leather jacket should cost reasonably…? you got any ideas?

    • Ella Renee 12:17 am on August 13, 2009 Permalink | Reply

Thanks for the info. I had a Zara leather jacket but it only cost me 70 bucks. But I don’t think that is real leather though, because it feels nothing like this one I just got. I know leather can be pricy, I guess I am just not used to spend this much money for a jacket…

    • Ella Renee 12:17 am on August 13, 2009 Permalink | Reply

Thanks. That was my problem too.
That’s why it makes it harder to decide, because I really like it. haha

    • Ella Renee 12:19 am on August 19, 2009 Permalink | Reply

This is awesome!!! Thank you so much. I am keeping the Jacket because I just got almost 30% of how it cost money back. Because they went on sale after I bought it, so I got the difference.

    Before the storm hits us

August 6 and August 7 outfit.

    August 7th outfit

    August 7th

    • Top: strip tank top – Forever 21
    • Cardigan: FCUK

Strip  pattern has always been one of my favorite pattern to wear. I know people always say that horizontal strip will make me look bigger than I am, but in some situation, I kinda think it goes well depends on what to pick to mix and match. The grey cardigan is just a color different to divid the whole look. I was originally going to wear a black one but because I have a black legging and black/white strip, so I thought grey might be my best choice to go to.
    August 8th outfit

    August 8th outfit

    • Flower silk tank top: Forever 21

This is my first time decided to try out a flower print as a main outfit. It is a very silk material so it is very flowy.  Because it is a slitly flowy shape so I wear leggings to keep my legs tight so the whole outfit don’t look too out of shape. Black cardigan is very casual, so it won’t be too ‘over trying’ look.

Yes. They have so many stuff and they are all good price. Try pick something out before all the summer stuff goes away.

    • Ella Renee 12:19 am on August 13, 2009 Permalink | Reply

That is my favorite cardigan. I’ve had it for such a long time and it goes well with anything.
I always think grey itself will make me look bigger than I am, but this is definitely one of my favorite.

    Dilshad Burman – August 3

A good friend moved back into town for a short time and I had him over for chai and chat and a quick run around our neighbourhood. I needed something simple and breezy because it was halfway warm a tleast…

    From Style Per Diem

The dress: Empire waist, white cotton dress with a broad printed border and piping details from Amercian Eagle summer sale. The thin straps tie around the neck. The print up close looks like pen and ink outlines filled in with water colours. There is nothing I dont like about this dress! I was not feeling too brave that day though, so I layered it with a very thin, almost sheer white t-shirt from H&M.

The sandals: Adorable two tone satin and leather sandals from ‘unique chappal uncle’ on Hill Road in the gulli opposite Globus in Bombay. I picked them up on my trip home this year. They were the last pair left and just happened to be in my size. :D Please excuse the ugly toes.

    From Style Per Diem

I wish I’d felt a little better when I was actually wearing this simple outfit. Alongwith an imaginary ‘pregnant pooch’ effect, I was sure I looked underage and idiotic. Looking back, it doesn’t look half as bad as I thought it did.
Hind sight = a river in Egypt.

It was ‘let’s wear something nice to work’ day. I would usually show up at work with only a ganji; just wearing the jacket made me feel well turned-out. Next time, we’ll try grown-up shoes.

Top: Square-necked racer-back ganji (Rs 75, Hill Road). Robin egg blue jacket with red velvet details. I love the contrast of these two colours, reminiscent yet again of The Life Aquatic. Also, I find that the longer ganji and shorter jacket made my mid-section look thinner.
A closer look at the jacket.

    DSC04555

Do I hear a sigh? No? Next time then.
Jeans: Ink Blue Levis. L567. Low rise, slight flare.
    Shoes: Most comfortable peep-toes.
Accessories: Thin silver hoops and G-Shock watch.

I had to interview an offshoot of royalty so I brought out the big guns. This my version of power dressing.

Shirt: Vero Moda blue shirt for Rs 150.
Skirt: Boxy high-waist skirt from Banana Republic (Clothes Rack, Rs 475). It’s not pure white; more like vanilla and has ’40s fit and great length.
Shoes: My only pair of heels: Dull gold wedges bought during the recent family wedding. I wish I had T-strap wedges to go with this so I could look really librarian.
Accessories: Two strings of cloudy beads (Rs 100 each), gold hoops and the Titan watch. And the square-buckled brown belt when I should have worn the patent black one.
I also changed switched my regular back-pack (Hey, I have a strained shoulder. Don’t you judge me) for a black guitar bag.
    Let’s look at me again.

That’s right, I’m the sexy. Oh it’s so nice to feel good about yourself sometimes.

    My NYC trip wardrobe

It was such sticky and hot days in New York City this days.
I was always want to stick with the comfortable, simple and pretty outfit for travel.

    • Day 1:

FCUK dress. It is soft and thin, so very comfortable for walking and weather like humid and sunny.

-in front of the United States Court House

    • Day 2:

A urban outfitters red flower pattern tank top and black pencil skirt.
    Very comfortable material.
I’ve never wear non-sleeves top before, but it is actually feel comfortable on the arms.

    -at Times Square night.

-in Central Park, Cherry Hill Fountain: The one has seen on TV show “Friends” where they shot the opening dancing in the fountain.

    Dilshad Burman – July 31st

    Without further adieu…I give you…THE SKIRT(tm)!!!

    From Style Per Diem

The skirt: For those of you who are unaware, this skirt is a labour of love and OCD. I hand sewed it, start to finish. It is a knee length, high waist, cotton summer skirt with a wide waist band, loops and a lace sash. It looks printed, but it is in fact, self embroidered. For the full story please visit my new blog http://www.sewwot.wordpress.com.

The top: Previously posted crisp white cotton shirt with slight elastic rouching at the bust.

The shoes: Patent leather black ballet flats by Hush Puppies that I picked up from Bata when I was home. The picture lacks detail but it has a little bow in the front and is faux croc skin.

Accessories: I left on all the usual silver and put on some black beads and carried my black satchel bag. To add to the effect, I wore dark black eye liner curled up at the corners of the eye and a black patent leather hair band.

I realise the outfit looks a little washed out in the picture and hoped to wear the skirt with a coral or peach t-shirt. But repeated wardrobe changes did not yield the desired effect and so I stuck to basic white. It still worked I thought and numerous compliments confirmed it so. I also thorougly enjoyed answering “Love your skirt, where from?” with “I MADE THIS!” :D
