Top: Muslin pin-tuck one from W bought three-four years ago. Forget how much. It’s my favourite top, forever and ever.

Pants: Wide-leg, huge-ass print from OMO in Bandra for about Rs 400. This summer, I invested in a lot of cotton and linen pants to add to my Funny Pants collection. I love this print and colour so much that I’m going to source the fabric drape myself in it.

Shoes: Dansko sandals, which are without doubt the mostly comfortable heels I own.

Accessories: Peacock feather earrings that reach my shoulders and the Titan watch.

Cotton pants and white top was my summer uniform.

Wore this to quick dinner yesterday and then to work today.

Romper: Promod via Colaba Causeway: Rs 200. I like how it’s short without being juvenile. I had my reservations about it, but I don’t look like I’m trying too hard. Or do I?

Chappals: I’m not too comfortable with overt sexiness, so took the edge off with my Steve Zissou kolhapuris.

Accessories: Seiko watch and this fantastic Jhola Co. canvas bag from OMO for Rs 610.

It all started with the shoes. I wanted another chance to wear these brogues that Faye brought down for me.

    DSC05881

Top: Dolman sleeve white tee: Rs 150; Colaba Causeway. I’m happy to report, nothing that I’ve bought in the last few months is ‘basic’. I’m shifting with the decade.

Pants: Roll-ups for Rs 300 from Fashion Street. The brand escapes me right now. I’ll update later. I chose these not only to showcase the shoes, but also because they are damn comfortable.

Accessories: Wooden and silver kadas and a Seiko watch

Shoes: From Clarks. I bump and grind them when no-one’s looking.

    I tappity-tapped all day.

This is what I wore to a movie date and then a working Sunday. When I work on Sunday, I protest by wearing whatever the fuck I want — shorts, pajamas, frothy princess dresses.

    DSC05861

Dress: Topshop maxi. I think this salmon pink/peach colour is going to dominate the summer lines. I’ve seen a lot of sample pieces in this colour around the city and since I can’t find them on the brands’ website, I think they are for the next season. I love the mul and the abject flowy-ness. I pulled it up a bit so I wouldn’t trip

    DSC05857

Top: It’s Kate Moss for Topshop sample and buttoned up, it looks a little… umm… of a pao-aunty disposition. But I love florals, so I wore it like an over-shirt which played down the shoulder frills, I think.

    Chappals: Gold huaraches

Accessories: Belt, gold hoops and men’s Casio. I though gold went better than silver with this colour.

Top: Safari shirt from Cotton World. Bought about two years ago for Rs 600-something. Under it is a tube top from Topshop, bought off FS for Rs 200. Too hot for a jacket, so I threw on the shirt.

    Jeans: Free Victoria Beckham skinnies
Shoes: Dansko sandals inspired by Nidhi, facilitated by Ketaki
Accessories: Square Casio men’s watch and some bangles, I think. The bag that I use every day, is this one.

    DSC05850

It’s capacious and the handle length in just right to reduce shoulder strain, plus it turns into a cross-body bag when I need my hands free. I saw it on the Anthropologie website and almost rationalised the price. But could I justify spending Rs 10,000 on a bag? I lovingly wrote down the measurements, took screenshots of every angle, laid it out in Quark and took to a guy in Dharavi. He built it with soft foam leather, trimmed it with real leather and charged me Rs 1,500.

I’ve been a bit inspired this week, clothes-wise and been wearing things I would normally be diffident about. After the aesthetic famine of January and February, I’m devouring Causeway and Fashion Street FS). Mission to abstain from shopping in May has fabulously failed.
I’m making a conscious effort to wear what I buy almost immediately and use up every thing lying in my wardrobe.

Maxi: I first wore this maxi at the Swasta Ani Masta garage sale held a few months ago, and made so much money at my stall that I’ve come to think of it as my soliciting dress. Bought solely for the colour, it’s from Colaba Causeway for about Rs 250.

Accessories: I chose not to wear anything around my neck because I thought it would crowd the plaited circle. I’m wearing a silver kada from Amrapali, an engraved bangle from Egypt and two shell and brass bangles. I forgot to take off the Casio G-Shock I wear to the pool and am wearing silver balis in my ears.

Shoes: Gold huaraches for Rs 200 from Bandra’s Hill Road.

I was running to work and didn’t want to co-ordinate top-pants-shoes, so pulled this out and it worked. I don’t usually wear something this revealing at work, but it was just one of those days when I couldn’t care less.

I covered up at work with a Kashmiri dorakh shawl.

    DSC05779

At one point, the boob sling was peeking, which looked tacky. Then I thought: Abhi woh bade hogaye hai. Apni balbute pe khade rah sakte hai, so I yanked it out. They didn’t let me down.

Shirt: Dunno. Colaba Causeway (Rs 150). It was mul with shell buttons and rounded edges.
Jeans: VB Skinnies (free), three years old.
Chaps: Steve Zissou kolhapuris from Causeway.
Accessories: Casio G-Shock watch and silver-tiered filgree ball earrings.

This the classic blue and white in a new silhoutte. I took a cab to work that day, which means no humidity and the result is shiny hair that sits down. Swimming makes me red.

Top: By Zara, found on Colaba Causeway (Rs 200). What can I say? I was looking for a new length; it was green. Our fate was sealed.
Tights: Anthropolgie (Rs 280), facilitated by the lovely Ketaki. I wanted stirrup tights and these looked sunflower yellow on the website. I’m not disappointed by the ochre though, because they are easier to co-ordinate. I love these because they have no seams and look like they have been painted on.

    DSC05746

Shoes: Golf, found at Eilat. Cost: NIS 123. I don’t champion ballet flats because I need them to be just so. The curve of the toe has to be perfect, as the depth of the cut inside, showing the right amount of toe cleavage. And then the material… These are perfect and I wear them when I need to look dressed up without wearing heels.
    Accessories: Seiko watch

The stance is of a person who has surrendered to her hair.

The pose is very editorial – love it. Hair – did you brush/comb it by any chance?

      • Educated Tatya 9:44 pm on April 20, 2010 Permalink | Reply

And mess up the do? I get curls by not combing my hair after a shower. However, this is a result of being indoors and outdoors periodically during the day.

Dress: From Colaba Causeway (Must have been Rs 250 or so. I remember thinking it was a LOT!)
Bundi: My mother’s, from the 80s.
    Shoes: Summer sandals from Bandra
Accessories: Casio G shock watch (I love a practical watch), three bangles — turquoise, wood and shell and brass, and moonstone earrings.

I got out of bed and wanted to wear something minimal and colourful. I’ve worn almost ever summer dress I have in the past week and then remembered this one. I got it six or seven years ago from Colaba Causeway and have only worn it as a skirt. It’s got a subtle A-line cut and a mid-calf length. Feeling brave, I pulled it up like I was supposed to and added colour with my mother’s cropped waistcoat. I wear an awful lot of dull greens. I have never worn anything ruched and am surprised by how nice it can look.
I think it’s the hair. Curly lets you get away with anything.

Dress: TopShop for £35. Bought at Fashion Street for Rs 200.
Sandals: Bought from Bandra, probably 200 bucks, I’m wearing these every day this summer and then throwing them away.
Accessories: Husband’s Panerai Marina Militaire homage watch, silver hoops and three kadas in my right hand — a solid silver one from Amrapalli, a wooden one with brass inlay and a lac one with mother-of-pearl chips.

    DSC05728

I love the conflict in this dress. Though I love a floral upholstery pattern, this one is too dull, too A to Z Dadar-East or Bombay Dyeing bedsheet for me. But look at the silhouette! It’s baggy, without being shapeless, airy with a fantastic back and rounded ending. And it has POCKETS! My only problem was with appropriate inner wear, which I solved by wearing a cross-back spaghetti.
This is going to be my summer uniform.
